Organization is Your Friend!

By Bill Emeott

Is there anyone in Kids Ministry with extra time on their hands? Since the answer to that question is most likely “no,” it becomes even more important that as a leader in Kids Ministry you organize your efforts to receive maximum results. Organization is a key to success.

Organize your Bible Study Ministry!

Sunday School (or small-group Bible study) is the core of any kids ministry. Organizing that vital portion of your ministry can determine the effectiveness of your overall ministry to children and their families. Here are some important tips to consider for maximum results:

·         Develop a Sunday School team.  Help you teachers see themselves as a team. Help them develop a “we’re all in this together” attitude. Develop your team atmosphere during division meetings that include team-building opportunities. Work diligently to help your Sunday School leadership see the value of “team.”

·         Develop and use a Sunday School organizational chart. Developing an organizational chart will quickly organize your Sunday School. Begin by recruiting volunteers to serve as division directors for your preschool and children’s divisions. Allow the division directors to recruit and direct your department/class directors (or lead teachers). Encourage the department directors to recruit and lead their group of teachers.

·         Funnel your Kids Ministry through you Sunday School teams. You’ve organizes your Sunday School ministry, why not funnel the rest of your kids ministry through this organized, well greased machine? What better way to assimilate a child into the life of the church than with caring teachers who have gotten to know each child on a personal basis? Who better to visit second grade prospects than a second grade teacher? When a family is in need, who better to know those needs than the Sunday School teacher who has already built a relationship with that family? Who better to staff Kids Ministry seasonal events than the people who work with the groups each week?

Bottom Line:  It’s all about relationships. Relationships built with kids will impact the way they feel about Sunday School, church, and God. Organize your Sunday School through relationships for maximum results.
