If you are around me for any length of time, you are going to hear me tell you a few things. 1. I’m going to tell you about my wife, Abbey. 2. I’m going to tell about my four boys. 3. I’m going to tell you about my work. For the past couple of years, a major part of my work has been Lifeway’s FLYTE curriculum. I love it. I use it at my own church. I also get to hear from customers who love it. Today, I want to introduce you to a Children’s Minister from Dothan, Alabama.
Name: Scarlyte Collette
Position: Minister of Children
Church: Cloverdale Baptist Church, Dothan, Alabama
I first heard about FLYTE in the Spring of 2011. We were looking for something to use with our preteen ministry in Sunday School that would really speak to the needs and issues that preteens were facing. I knew whatever we chose the Bible had to be the authority for which everything was written and taught. FLYTE delivered just what we were looking for and so much more! We began using FLYTE in August 2011, in our Sunday School/Bible Study time. It was an instant hit. The leaders were immediately saying how much they enjoyed this curriculum.
The favorite session of one of leaders has been the session on emotions. We all talk about the up and down roller coaster ride of emotions that preteens experience. How cool is it that there was a whole unit on what to do when you experienced these emotions and why you were experiences them! I personally have been impressed with every session!
Did the Purity Unit SCARE You?
I was so proud that we are talking about purity and that it was God’s plan for their lives. The unit included lessons on what purity means, mental, physical and sexual purity. I felt sure when we completed the unit the preteens had good knowledge about what God’s plan was for their lives and that He alone had the best plan for them. I was also glad it gave them a time to pre-plan or think about what they will do when faced with difficult situations involving their life and choices to remain pure for Christ!
What Do Your Leaders Say?
My leaders have continued throughout the year to be energetic and excited about using FLYTE and each weeks lesson.
What Do the Preteens Like?
The preteens love the videos and it gets them to talking even when some topics are difficult. My son’s favorite is always the ‘weird of the day!” He comes home talking about how funny they are. Funny is always a big hit with preteen boys!
I have also been impressed because this curriculum has allowed this group of preteens to bond as they have shared in Bible study about what God desires for their life. Two weeks ago while finishing our lesson on sexual purity our girls got together and pledged to hold each other accountable to remain pure and to seek God’s best for their lives! What a blessing! I cannot help but wish this curriculum had been available for my generation. What different lives we may have lived and what a difference it would have made in our parenting?
I highly recommend that every ministry wanting to make a dynamic eternal difference in the lives of preteens check out this curriculum! I know you will be impressed. I believe in this curriculum for preteens and in these dark days in which we live that we (the church) cannot afford to sit idly by and watch another generation miss the blessings of living a life for Christ and being able to impact their peers with the love of Jesus!
What about you? Do you use FLYTE? How have you seen God using the curriculum in your church?
