During the holiday months, many people focus on serving our community and local organizations such as the Salvation Army, food banks and homeless shelters. But did you know that volunteer numbers drop severely after the new year? Now that’s it’s January, (can you believe it?) many organizations see a large need for volunteers.
When organizations go without volunteers, the work really begins to pile up.
Here are some ways your kids ministry could serve in January:
- Call a local shelter and ask if they\’re in need of donations. Hold a drive where kids can donate clothes they\’ve grown out of over the season. Shelters may also allow children to come sort donations items.
- Many food banks need help sorting and packing donations on a regular basis.
- See if your kids can sing or read in a nursing home or assisted living facility. Children often bring smiles and much joy to those facilities.
What are some other ways your children’s ministry could/does continue to serve the community in January and throughout the year?
