5 Favorite Christmas Books

December 19, 2013 | Kids Ministry

landDo you have a favorite Christmas book? I love books. I read all day long, so honestly, I don’t read that much at home. However, when I do read, I read from a book, not my tablet. I have always loved children’s books though. I read them to my boys almost every night. My wife and I used to give each other children’s books regularly while we were dating. It was just a fun and thoughtful gift we could use to share our hearts and feelings with one another.

Recently, I asked my Facebook friends to tell me know what their favorite Christmas book is. There were numerous responses.

Here are five favorites:

1. The Crippled Lamb by Max Lucado. I have to admit, this is my own personal favorite. I love this story. Mrs. Betty from Mississippi, who also happened to be my 3rd and 4th Grade Sunday School teacher, shared that the book was a reminder that God had a special place for everyone.

2. The Pine Tree Parable by Liz Curtis Higgs. Another favorite of mine, Liz Curtis Higgs has a whole set of parable books and I own every one!

3. Mortimer’s Christmas Manger by Karma Wilson. Karen, my cousin-in-law and a school librarian wrote that she loves this book’s different take on the Nativity story.

4. Jan Brett’s Christmas Books. OK, I realize that technically I didn’t give you a title but an author, but Kristy from New Mexico and Kim (my former piano teacher) both offered hearty recommendations that these books are amazing and beautifully illustrated.

5. God Gave Us Christmas by Lisa Tawn Bergren. Elizabeth, a childhood friend, shares that this book helps her explain to her kids that Christmas is about much more than Santa and gifts.

What’s your favorite Christmas book?
