Mystery Object: What Is It?

By Jana Magruder

Jana_newObject-based learning is a method of teaching that involves using real objects to give context to a story. They are great when used as mystery objects for kids to guess! The following image is a real artifact pictured in our first quarter of Explore the Bible: Kids! Take a peek and see if you can guess what it is. Ask yourself the following questions:

Mystery Object

1. What details do you notice?
2. How do you think this item might have been used?
3. Who might have used it?
4. What purpose or function might it have served?
5. How old do you think this is?

Use these questioning strategies to help the kids you teach learn more about the Bible by using object-based learning. It’s a great way to help kids engage and connect with the scripture! Find out more about Explore the Bible: Kids.

Answer: Ancient bread stamp used by bakers to stamp their bread before baking it. The baker that owned this stamp included the mark of both a menorah and a cross into every loaf, perhaps indicating he was a Jewish Christian.
