For those of you who came to Nashville for the annual Kids Ministry Conference… you asked and we are delivering! Below are the lyrics for the Frozen parody song They Don’t Show performed on stage by Jen Akers. Due to Disney copyrights on the song Let It Go, we can\’t actually post the video of the performance. We’re sorry! We wish we could! Do feel free, however, to use the lyrics of They Don’t Show along with the karaoke version of Let it Go to create your own dramatic and convicting performance!
In case you were wondering, there is a back story to the song. When I wrote They Don’t Show, it came from my own personal experience of recruiting volunteers for children’s ministry. Those of us in KidMin all share this experience and know it can be desperate, lonely, and isolating – just like, well – Queen Elsa herself! I hope you can use the song in a fun and playful way, but at the same time knowing that God is in control – even on the Sundays where “they don’t show.”
Always know our team prays for you and counts it as pure joy to partner with you in ministry.

They Don’t Show
Lyrics and Director’s Notes
By Jana Magruder
(to the melody of ‘Let it Go’ from Frozen)
(Singer seems desperate, anxious)
The sun shines high on the nursery at nine – not a worker to be seen
They’ve all called in sick today and it looks like – it’s just me
This child is howling like I feel down deep inside
Need more volunteers – heaven knows I’ve tried
(Singer seems hopeful at the thought)
Just bring them in and let them see
How much fun it is in the nur-ser-y
Enlist them now and then they’ll know
But where they’d go????
(Singer is frustrated)
They don’t show – they don’t show
I’m left here all alone!
They don’t show – they don’t show
They look away and run!
I don’t care – if you’re hamster’s sick!!
Just show up NOW –
(quieter, somber) Or I’ll have to find another way…
(Singer seems cynical, almost sarcastic)
It’s funny how I clear a room – just walking through the door
They’re so tired of being asked to PLAY DOWN ON THE FLOOR!!!
It’s time to find a brand new call –
Think I’ll post some signs on the bathroom stall
No right, no wrong, no rules for me – I’m FREE!!!
(Angrier)
Tell me no! Tell me no!
Just look me in the eye…
Tell me no! Tell me no!
I dare you to deny
Here I stand and here I’ll stay
Let the babies CRY….
(Tempo changes, singer seems to go through a transformation)
Something is changing, guess the Lord has had His way
I give up trying – cast my cares on Him and pray!
Instead of begging, I cast vision that is best –
(quiet, humbly) Come serve a family
(boldly) OUR GOD WILL DO THE REST!!!!
(Singer is loud and joyful)
Now they know! Now they know!
The heart of a child will grow!
Now they know – they will know
That harvest will be sown!
Here I stand as a testament
That when you SERVE
God uses you in a special way…
