What makes The Gospel Project unique as a curriculum? Join Aaron Wilson as he talks through the six distinctives of The Gospel Project for Kids in this webinar excerpt.
1. Christ Centered. It’s all about Jesus, and every story points back to Him. In Luke 24 Jesus details how the Old Testament Scripture pointed to His coming, death, and resurrection (Luke 24:44). Jesus is saying that all of the Old Testament is all about Him, all of the New Testament is about Him. When we create The Gospel Project, our heart is to help kids see how the little stories in the Bible are about the big story that points to Him. Every session points to Jesus in some way.
2. Heart Transforming. Head, Heart, Hands. We start with head knowledge. We want to teach sound doctrine about God and His Word. As we do that, we pray this impacts kid’s hearts and helps take them from darkness into light. As kids experience God as their Savior, this affects their hands and how they live for Jesus. The order of this is very intentional.
3. Age Aligned. From babies through pre-teens and beyond, every age is studying the same portions of Scripture every week. Discipleship starts in the home and the role of the church is to come alongside families to equip and encourage them in their discipleship. With The Gospel Project, everyone in the family is studying the same passages of Scripture. This makes The Gospel Project unique as a curriculum.
4. Chronological. We go from Genesis through Revelation through the span of three years. We spend one year in the Old Testament, one year on the life of Jesus and one year on the rest of the New Testament to give kids a full picture of the Bible and how it all points to Jesus, this helps kids understand how these stories all point to Jesus but also how they got from one story to the next.
5. Theologically Rich. Everybody is a theologian and has a view of God and how the world works and how we relate to Him. We want to capture that curiosity and point it in the direction of truth. We use 99 questions and answers to help guide this. Every week, kids will learn a Big Picture Question and Answer to help store these truths about the doctrine in their hearts.
6. Mission Minded. We want kids to be transformed by the gospel and be missionaries wherever God has planted them. Portions of the lesson each week are dedicated to living out your faith, vocational missionaries, and how kids can live on mission for God at their friend’s house, at school, or at the movies.
