It’s a new year, is it a new you? While there’s no wrong to reevaluate your goals, a new year certainly is an excellent place to begin. Start the year by celebrating and encouraging your volunteer team in a fresh, creative way. Vision boards are a powerful tool to unite your ministry team around shared purpose, prayer, and hope for the year ahead. And, it’s fun!
What Is a Volunteer Vision Board?
A Volunteer Vision Board is a collaborative collage that captures your team’s collective prayers, goals, and affirmations for the ministry year. Think of it as a visual reminder of what you’re building together: a place where faith meets action, and dreams take shape.
Why Create One?
Your volunteers pour their hearts into serving kids and families week after week. A vision board gives them space to pause, reflect, and dream about what God might do through your ministry in 2026. It builds team unity, sparks conversation, and creates a tangible reminder of your shared mission.
Two Ways to Create Your Vision Board
- Option 1: Host a Kickoff Event Gather your team for a fun, low-pressure kickoff event. Provide a large poster board, magazines, markers, and stickers. Invite volunteers to add their own prayers, goals, and encouragements to the shared board. You could also divide volunteers by age group if you have a big team and want multiple boards! Play uplifting music, serve snacks, and let the creativity flow as your team builds the vision together.
- Option 2: Create an Ongoing Board Let’s be honest, it may be hard to find time to get everyone together. Alternatively, make this an ongoing effort with little time required! Place a vision board in a central space where volunteers naturally gather, like a check-in area, supply room, or volunteer lounge. Send a quick email or text explaining how they can contribute on their own time. Keep markers, sticky notes, and inspirational word printouts nearby so adding to the board is easy and accessible. Volunteers can pause between services or before their shift to add their thoughts whenever inspiration strikes. Over time, the board fills with collective prayers, dreams, and encouragements from the whole team.
Display the finished vision board in your ministry space as a year-long encouragement, no matter which approach you choose.
