In a world of brokenness, all of humanity is looking for a way to put things back together. Sometimes we look for it in status or esteem. Sometimes we look for it in the approval of others. Sometimes we look for it in people or in circumstances. Kids, students, and adults all know the cycle: chasing a sense of satisfaction, only to be let down time and time again. But the place where we can find the real hope and truth we are looking for is in our position before God. As we follow Jesus together, we get to speak the life-giving identity truth over kids and students—that they can be made new in Jesus when they respond to Him in faith.
All people are broken by sin and unable to fix themselves. But even though we are broken, there is Someone who repairs. When kids and students respond to Jesus through faith and repentance, He gives them a new identity. He exchanges their identity of brokenness and gives them a new status and position before Him. Being “made new” is not about trying harder or becoming a better version of yourself. Instead, through Jesus, God gives a new identity, a new way of thinking, a new peace, a new purpose, and a new place to belong.
A New Identity: Before anything else changes a person’s identity changes in Christ through faith. Followers of Jesus are no longer defined by sin, shame, or guilt. They are not subject to their failures or what the world says about them. Instead, God calls them His. He gives them a new identity, not one that is simply “good enough,” but a new standing, a new life in Jesus.
A New Perspective: As this generation experiences new life in Jesus, they receive a new perspective (Romans 12:2). God helps them see themselves, their sin, suffering, and purpose differently. This change within them can shape their motivations, choices, and priorities.
A New Peace: Being made new gives a new peace and power over sin. While this new identity does not mean instant perfection, a new peace is given in place of fear, and a new power source is tapped into through the Holy Spirit. Kids and students are no longer powerless against the sin that once ruled them. Instead, they have the ability to fight sin and temptation and pursue God’s best for their lives.
A New Purpose: God does not only rescue people from something; He calls them into something. He gives them a new purpose for how to live their lives and redirects their motives, desires, and ambitions to reflect His will, purposes, and plans for them. Life is no longer centered on self, image, or survival. Instead, it flourishes in light of who God truly made them to be all along—people who glorify Him.
A New Place to Belong: New life in Jesus is not a life of isolation. This life calls believers to a thriving community of faith. Being made new in Christ is personal but never private. God places His children in His family, giving them a place to belong, a new way to love, and a shared joy in the community of faith. In a culture where many grow up feeling disconnected, unseen, or alone, this matters deeply. God renews people, placing them in His family of faith, renewing their identity in Him, and restoring their understanding of who He made them to be.
God’s restoration of preschoolers’, kids’, and students’ lives is not trendy, fragile, or temporary. It is true and reliable because it is grounded in who God is and what Jesus has done. Being made new is an integral part of what it means to follow Jesus. It changes how people see themselves, how they fight sin, how they live, and how they pursue community. In Jesus, God gives this generation of believers what they could never create on their own. God does not just improve what was broken—He provides what was missing and makes people new in Christ.
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has passed away, and see, the new has come! — 2 Corinthians 5:17 (CSB)
I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will remove your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. I will place my Spirit within you and cause you to follow my statutes and carefully observe my ordinances. — Ezekiel 36:26-27 (CSB)
For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body ruled by sin might be rendered powerless so that we may no longer be enslaved to sin, since a person who has died is freed from sin. — Romans 6:6-7 (CSB)
But that is not how you came to know Christ, assuming you heard about him and were taught by him, as the truth is in Jesus, to take off your former way of life, the old self that is corrupted by deceitful desires, to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, and to put on the new self, the one created according to God’s likeness in righteousness and purity of the truth. — Ephesians 4:20-24 (CSB)
