I say it every year as we get into the fall season, but I can hardly wait until Christmas! People start talking about pumpkin spice, and all I can think about is peppermint. Some will start talking about dressing up in costumes, and I’m already thinking about dressing my house up with Christmas lights and decorations. I love the Christmas season. And I hope I never lose that.
I know that not everyone shares my enthusiasm and anticipation Christmas. For many, the holiday season brings up difficult emotions of the loss of loved ones, weariness, and loneliness. I always want to be sensitive of this. Christmas time, however, can still be a season of great joy. It is, after all, a time of year that many are talking about, and even singing about, joy. And even in the midst of hurt, we can find joy in the message of Jesus’ birth as we walk through the season of Advent.
Christmas is an exciting time where families can see how God has given us peace, joy, hope, and love! Through Lifeway Kids’ Family Advent Guide, each week’s devotion will explore one of these themes as you open the Bible as a family. It’s worth noting that this year’s Family Advent Guide isn’t designed to directly follow the chronology of the Nativity story, but rather, we will read a part of the Christmas story and consider some of the characters who played a role. As you read a week’s portion of the story, there will be discussion questions to help start the conversation and connect the story from Scripture to your kids’ lives.
